"Manus AI", "AutoGPT 2026" and "AI Agent" are among the fastest-growing search terms of the past two months. People have seen that AI can carry out multi-step work on its own, and they are asking: should we use a ready-made general-purpose AI Agent, or build our own AI Agent for the business?
The two solve different problems. This article helps you choose correctly. If you are new to the topic, see what is an AI agent.
Two kinds of AI Agent
General-purpose AI Agents (tools such as Manus AI, AutoGPT and similar task assistants) are powerful personal assistants. You give them a goal such as "research market X and build a comparison table", and they plan, browse the web and summarise on their own. They suit one person's work: research, drafting documents, one-off data processing.
A dedicated business AI Agent works on behalf of the business with customers and internal systems: answering customers 24/7, checking booking software, creating orders, collecting deposits, assigning tasks to staff. It runs continuously, on the business's own channels, under the business's rules.
Comparison by what a business needs
| Criterion | General-purpose AI Agent | Dedicated business AI Agent |
|---|---|---|
| Who uses it | One person, for their own work | The business's customers and staff |
| Data | Public web, files you provide | The business's documents, price lists, internal software |
| Connection to current software | Limited, depends on the tool | Direct: bookings, CRM, payments, inventory |
| Customer channels | None built in | Website, Messenger, Zalo OA, WhatsApp |
| Control | The user checks it | Permissions, human approval, a log of every action |
| Brand voice | Generic | The brand's name, greeting, form of address and language |
| Runs when nobody is at the computer | No | 24/7 |
When to choose which
Choose a general-purpose AI Agent when:
- The work is one-off or occasional (research, writing, analysis).
- Only one person uses it and no customers interact with it.
- Nothing needs to be written into the business's software.
Choose a dedicated AI Agent when:
- The work repeats daily with customers: advice, bookings, after-sales care.
- It must read and write data in the software you use.
- You need clear rules: what the AI does by itself, what needs a human approver.
- You need to measure results: self-served customers, orders, tasks completed.
Many businesses use both: staff use a general-purpose assistant to work faster, while customers talk to the business's own AI Agent.
Risks of using a general tool like Manus AI for customer work
- Customer data leaves the business. Putting customer lists and contracts into a public tool takes that data out of your control. A dedicated AI Agent masks personal information (phone numbers, ID documents) before it reaches the AI model.
- No human approval. An assistant that acts without an approval gate is a risk to money and access rights.
- It does not remember your rules. Prices, promotions and terms change constantly. A dedicated AI Agent reads from sources the business manages, not from general memory.
A dedicated AI Agent does not mean starting from scratch
The CSM Bridge AI Agent runs on one shared core that already includes conversation memory, a human approval gate, personal data masking, multichannel connections and software connectors. Each business differs in its documents, tools and rules, which are declared as configuration. That is why building your own AI Agent is much faster than writing a new system. Frequently asked questions
Can Manus AI replace a customer care assistant?
General-purpose tools are strong at one person's work. Customer care has to run continuously on the business's channels, based on the business's data and rules. That is the job of a dedicated AI Agent.
Can a dedicated AI Agent use the latest AI models?
Yes. The core is separate from the model. The business chooses its model provider and can switch when needed without rebuilding the assistant.
