Humid Weather, Crying Baby - How to Choose a 'Breathable' Apartment for Your Family!
This season, my skin has been irritated and my baby has been fussy, especially when it rains. I found out that humid air and poor ventilation are the main causes. That's when I realized that choosing a home isn't just about finding a place to live, but also about choosing a healthy living environment for the whole family. Sharing with young parents, here are 3 things I learned after 'moving' to improve the situation:
1. Choose a house direction that welcomes natural wind
I used to think any house direction was fine, as long as it was feng shui compliant. But in reality, the direction of the house directly affects the airflow. My previous apartment faced west, it was hot like an oven in the afternoon, and stuffy. After moving to an apartment facing southeast, with sea breezes, my skin improved and my baby slept easier. Parents should prioritize apartments with at least one open side, to catch the natural wind. If you have a balcony, even better, you can plant more trees to make the air fresher.
2. Check the building's ventilation system
Having a balcony isn't enough. The building's overall ventilation system is also very important. I once went to see a very beautiful apartment, but when I asked about the ventilation system, the salesperson hesitated to answer. Later, after researching, I found out that the building had a poor ventilation system, often with mold. Parents should ask clearly about the ventilation system, see if it is sufficient to circulate air throughout the building. If possible, visit on rainy days to check for waterlogging and dampness in common areas.
3. Choose 'breathable' building materials
Many modern apartments use modern building materials, but they are not environmentally friendly. For example, industrial wood flooring, waterproof paint... can cause stuffiness and discomfort. I chose an apartment using natural wood flooring, lead-free paint, and walls built with ventilated bricks. These materials help air circulate better, reducing mold. In addition, you should choose apartments with high ceilings, helping the air to circulate freely.
Choosing a home is a process, but if you prioritize your family's health, everything will become easier. I hope these shares will help parents find a true 'nest', where the whole family is healthy and happy.
